Real Scout Weekend "The City & Wings Academy"

When I first started writing this blog today. There were a lot of things on my mind. Including all the games I seen this weekend.

At the Big Apple Games at St. John's and Baruch college. I had the chance to see and talk with the many interesting people that make basketball, the sport it is.

Sunday Morning, I went to watch "The City" 12under tournament in downtown manhattan.

The Teams included "The City", F.A.C.E.S. (NJ), Metro Hawks, and Team Underrated.

"The City" defeated the nationally rated F.A.C.E.S. from Newark NJ in the championship by 4pts.

There were plenty of players on those 12under teams who have a bright future.

I headed to 24th and lexington and arrived at baruch college. I was in a sorry mood all day long, with the smile of somebody who was getting paid to do something they really didn't want to. I felt like a politican or something. I browsed through the crowd and a thought popped into my brain. Damn man, I don't see Rodney Parker, I don't see nobody I really care to deal with, I'm in the wrong spot, I should've went to Iaabo or something.

Then I seen one guy, and he said the same thing to me and it all clicked!

"I'm in the right spot."

Not one of the 50 or so college coaches there. Not one of the fans looking for the next great one out of New York City.

It was one man, who has constantly been in my vision. A Man who is "On his grind" and never gets the respect that he deserves at all.

While we talk about Naclerio, Tiny, and the others. This guy has been at every game from Jan 1st-Dec 31st, summer, pre-season, and high school season. With his family in tow.

"Why don't we ever get any love on your site." He says when I walk up to him.

Billy Turnage is joking with me again. I will admitt it seems as though I have my bias towards a certain kid. But, that's usually because I've seen the kid work and slave so much, its just easy to say, "He's got something."

But, I never go overboard and call a kid a star when he's a role player. Honestly, the reason I never speak on Ronald Baker or any of the wings players is "They're in the bronx."

Even in is8 it was either too early, or too far. I had other things to do. No disrespect.

Fact is, after watching them embarass St. Peter's with O.D. I'm convinced, that Turnage has a good beef with everybody who doubts his team, and his coaching skills.

I know, most coaches don't understand how far scouting will take you in this game. Turnage rarley goes into a game blindfolded.

Turnage may not win the chip this year, but that's why they play the games. He really thinks he can win, and I've seen him prove plenty of people wrong. From St. Mary's to Wings Academy, Billy Turnage and Wings Academy deserve a lot of respect. "You happy Billy.lol"
