New York City is the media capital of the world. In this city, we generally don't associate ourselves with Chicago. Philly, CT, Bmore, ATL, Carolinas, and Texas are more points of interests in High School and College Hoops.
Some of you guys may wonder, where is our New York to Chicago connection? Well, you got players such as the late Ben Wilson. A High School basketball star who was killed, a very sad story in the hoops world. I coached his son Brandon Wilson
as a freshman in high school, in New York City.
Brooklyn's Elijah Clarke, BX's Sammy Mejia, and southside Jamaica Cliffy Clinskales all played at DePaul. New York City's Gary D. is one of the nations hardest working coaches at Depaul too.
What about NBA Players, Ben Gordon (Mount Vernon), Joakim Noah (Manhattan), and Luol Deng (NJ). The Knicks have Q. Richardson (Depaul), Eddy Curry (Depaul), and what about Jordan downing us every season in the nba? New Yorkers have a lot of respect for Chicago.
New Yorker's always follow New Jersey Hoops powers St. Anthony's, St. Benedict's, Patterson Catholic, Seton Hall Prep, and St. Patrick's.
We always hear of a couple of Chicago High School teams making noise. One team I'm starting to focus on more is Chicago's Zion Benton. On Saturday night Zion-Benton won Chicago's best High School Tournament. In the Lane Thanksgiving Tournament Zion-Benton slapped up on Evanston 69-43.
The 5-0 Zion-Benton "Zee-Bees" were led by star Lenzelle Smith (14pts, 7rebs, 4stls, 4assts), and Ronald Stewart (14pts, 4assts).
