(Westinghouse High will meet Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday)By FiveBoroSports.com
The PSAL announced its borough playoff pairings Friday evening, handing out top seeds to three-time defending city champion Lincoln in Brooklyn, Cardozo in Queens, John F. Kennedy in the Bronx and Wadleigh in Manhattan.
Boys’ basketball commissioner Mel Goldstein, assistant Artie Leitner and a handful of other league officials selected the teams.
Five Class AA teams and three Class A teams were picked from Brooklyn,
Queens and the Bronx while the number was even, four apiece, in Manhattan.
All ‘A’ division winners made it to the boroughs. In Brooklyn A South, FDR, which got the No. 8 spot in Brooklyn, was awarded the spot, the PSAL seeding committee said, courtesy of their non-league win over Hunter and recent win overTelecommunications, whom the Cougars finished in a first-place tie
with.
Non-league victories, strength of schedule and strong finishes factored into seeding and selection.
Below are the match-ups, broken down by borough. The opening round is Tuesday, with all games beginning at 5 p.m. at the higher seed. The semifinals are Thursday at 5 p.m., again at the higher seed, and the
finals are Sunday at a location to be determined, likely Long Island University or St. Francis College in Brooklyn.
