St. Raymond’s rising junior Sidiki Johnson has verbally committed to Arizona, FiveBoroSports.com learned late Saturday night.

His father and Long Island Lightning AAU coach, Bernard Bowen, and high-school coach, Oliver Antigua, both confirmed the commitment.

Johnson is the latest New York City recruit to join coach Sean Miller, following Lamont (Momo) Jones and Kevin Parrom, both soon-to-be freshmen. He played with the Lightning at Summer in the City, a one-day AAU tournament at St. John’s, on Friday. On hand was Arizona assistant Emanuel (Book) Richardson, who has plenty of New York City ties, going back to his days with the New York Gauchos.

The gifted 6-foot-7 forward had received interest from Kentucky, Providence, Marquette, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, St. John’s and Pittsburgh.

The lone sophomore on any of the three All-CHSAA teams (he was named to the third team), Johnson was ferocious in the paint last winter, averaging 11.3 points per game for St. Ray’s. He was selected to the FiveBoroSports.com All-City third team and the FiveBoroSports.com All-Bronx first team this past winter.
