RealScout News & Rumors

Written BY: Nathan Blue aka Real Scout
Pictured: Kemba Walker

I feel bad but, Special Shouts to the two players not mentioned in the Right Bounce 2009 2014 Game. MVP Chancellor Ellis 6'2 and All-Tournament Selection Thomas Holley 6'2.

Ellis a player I've watched play since Spring Fling in April with Juice All-Stars. Ellis scored from outside and inside, hitting some big shots to secure the victory. While, Holley did most of his work on the glass and at the freethrow line, but was equally effective.

Yup, you see it John Wall against Kemba Walker. They say there isnt alot of pressure in college basketball. But, if Walker needs a boost to move up in the draft. He has the oppurtunity to quiet any doubters. Oh yeah, dont forget Walker did his thing against Derrick Rose in the Worlds Most Famous Arenas in High School.

Rudy King makes "The Right Bounce"

Written by: Nathan Blue aka Real Scout

Rudy King's "Right Bounce 2009" is still going strong. No more players named- Sylven Landesberg (Virgina), Devin Ebanks (West VA), Lance Stephenson (Cincinnati), Tobias Harris (Top 5 2010), Doron Lamb (Top 5 2010), Jayvaughn Pinkston (Loughlin), Erving Walker (Florida), James Padgett (Maryland), James Johnson (Qunnipiac), and Vincent Council (Providence).

The Right Bounce 2009 showcased todays stars named Jerron Love (2014), Jason Boswell (2013), Johnathan Severe (2013), Keith Williams (2013), Boubacar Diallo (2013), Malik Harmon (2013), and Jadade Gardner (2013), Daniel Dingle (2012), Jeff Neverson (2012), Dashawn Suber (2012), Ivan Vasquez (2012), Fidel Yacabou (2012), Ivan Vasquez (2012), and Steve Gomez (2012).

There were 6 players who stood out for Realscout.net These five guys left a big impression in three games full of talented kids.

Enjoy

SG-Omar Calhoun 6'4 Christ the King (Pictured Above)
(CLASS OF 2012)

I seen this happen in 2008. Never a crowd favorite. But very respected. Started out suspect, turned into a prospect, and blossomed into a star.

26pts, 11 rebounds, and 6 assts on a bad night. Never a crowd favorite Three time Chsaa Player of The Year, Mcdonalds All-American, and Acc rookie of the year.

Similarities are there. Similar to who? Sylven. Watch out NYC Calhoun is here.

PG-Shavar Newkirk 5'6 FDA
(CLASS OF 2014)

Newkirk is taking his game to a new level. I had my doubts on the talented 8th grader from harlem. But, as a scout, you look for the bad and then try to find a ceiling. Not every player reaches their full potential. While, I maybe confusing you a little. Let me put it like this, Newkirk was the best floor general I seen in three games.

No he didn't throw flashy passes, and shoot the ball everytime he touched it. What he did was everything possible to win the game. He gave the ball to open teammates, and played like a high school freshman more then a middle school chucker.

Newkirk is a bright kid, with a bright future, and you can tell he really enjoys the game.

SG-Charles (CJ) Davis 5'10 Scholars Academy
(CLASS OF 2014)

As Davis walked to get his jersey before taking this pic. I wondered why wasn't he coming back with his trophy? Well, I'm not big on saying a kid got snubbed. But Davis got snubbed. His stats wouldn't read out amongst the best.

He's another player like Newkirk who made a lot of huge plays that made me follow his every move. A couple of jumpers, some nice passes, good defense, and overall IQ, were his strong points.

Davis is going to be a solid high school player. Honestly, the kid could start on 90% of NYC PSAL AA schools now.

SG-Isiah Whitehead 6'2 MSCI CLASS OF 2014

Labeled by some the next Lance Stephenson. He played solid, but wasn't close to "Born Ready" at the same stage.

Whitehead is talented and understands the game. But, he's only in the 8th grade, so maybe I seen him on a average day. You know what, he's good, but he's not Lance, he's just not lance.lol

SG-Isiah Lewis 6'1 Christ the King
(CLASS OF2013)

I like the kids motor. They always say you can't make a fast kid slow, and you can't make a slow kid fast. Driving down the lane at you 100miles per hour, Lewis will be a player you hear about on my site for the next four years.

Similar to Durand Scott (Miami University) in talent. No other player besides CK Teammate 6'2 Johnathan Severe, comes close to Lewis talent level.

PF Jordan Washington 6'7 Pathway HS
(CLASS OF 2013)

Rebounds, blocks, charges, points, and elbows, are the stats you keep when watching Washington play.

The Right Bounce audience had a chance to see the most dominating player (28pts) in middle school basketball, take is dominating ways to the high school ranks.

Our high school All-Americans from little more than a year ago, and subject of the PUNKS cover shoot about two years ago, three of these cats are already prepared to take the NBA by storm. And, let’s be honest, the fourth very well may be too, but the age rule is gonna make us wait a little longer to find out. As the NBA-bound Brandon Jennings, Jrue Holiday, and Tyreke Evans bring their games to the northern U.S.—heading to Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Sacramento, respectively—Lance Stephenson will be heading to Cincinnati next season. Separated for now, we may see the four reunite some Sunday night in February a few years down the road. It’s early but, hey, you never know.—Adam Fleischer

Real Scout is a Family 12 years strong

Written by: Nathan Blue aka Real Scout
Pictured: Rodney Parker (Far Right)
I know you hear me say this phrase alot. You go to youtube.com and watch our videos. Real Scout is a family, its a group of kids who workout together, go to school, and go on to play basketball. I have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on meals, and basic needs, for kids who just worked out for 5 hrs but have no food in their homes.

Some players you may have heard of, while some have went onto college and are police officers, dentists, and teachers. So, if I invited a player to an event of mine (hes family), if I invited him to the park (hes family), if he took advice and did right in school and in his home (hes family), and if he played for my team (hes family). With all that being said , I WOULD BE A FOOL TO TAKE ALL THE CREDIT FOR THESE KIDS SUCCESS. I put together a list of 50 memorable players of all-time.

Also, RIP to my Mentor Rodney Parker, know your history. You can start by watching his movie Heaven is a Playground, after that get his book.

Enjoy my stories...Im a blabber mouth.lol

Part I

Marques Cox 6'1 Stony Brook University

Cox played for Real Scout in IS8 various times. Marques is the son of wings academy principle Wayne Cox. One of the best defenders to ever play the game. Somebody once said "Marques doesn't play basketball, he plays defense."lol Cox recently graduated from Stony Brook where he had a solid career for the Sea Wolves.

Loul Deng 6'8 Duke University

Deng was a unknown talent out of blair academy nj. I brought him in to IS8 to play in the semi-finals against the number one player in the nation (Lenny Cooke). While cooke did score 39pts, deng was reported to score 19pts and 18 rebs in a classic overtime game. Deng played for duke for 1 season where he took them to the final four, and declared for the nba draft. Deng was a high draft pick and is currently on the chicago bulls.

Josh Wright 6'2 Syracuse University

Wright's story is unique. I had a video tape sent to my house of a young talented prospect. After holding onto the tape for 3 months, I gave it a watch. I watched a frosh (wright) play in a senior all star game, where he was the flashiest, most effective player on the court.

After bringing the kid from Upstate Utica to the Big Apple, he was an instant success. His travel aau team (NY Panthers) featured enough talent to fill a unc roster. But, wright was the star . A Top 25 nationally rated player, wright chose syracuse. He was never given a shot sitting behind screw up "Billy Edlin", crowd favorite "Gerry Mcnamara", and phenom "Johnny Flynn". Wright is currently living in utica working on a pro career.

Sebastian Telfair 6'0 Lincoln HS/NBA

It always amazes me that when the documentary was shot, I didn't get a little bit of love. While, it was well-known that coach Tiny morton, Jamel Thomas, Danny Turner, and others were handling the day by day things. I did get a chance to coach the kid "Bassey".

Not including our NY Panther days when there wasn't a Juice Team. Tiny Morton one of the greatest psal coaches in its rich history. Gave me a call on a saturday at 7am and said "Nate, you got a is8 game?' I replied "Yes, at 9am" he said "Do you want sebastian?" I said "Of course, you don't have a team? But I need him this morning." Tiny replied "He will be there."

I walk in the gym at 8am, and there is sebastian. Pair of cargo shorts, no shirt, and boots shooting jumpers at the top of the key. I explained to him we got a tough game today against flatbush youth. He said "I got you." He intimidated the FYA team all game, and we won big. While he didn't show up until the playoffs, in which we lost to a young kid named "Danny Green".

I will always remember how he was one of the easiest kids to coach. He was a high school phenom, and will forever be a feel good story. Telfiar is currently on the Minnesota t'wolves.

Ryan "SFX" Williams 6'5 St. Johns (Plus Video)

SFX was always a crowd favorite. Played in Real Scout's first all star game at elmcor. A sick athlete and a solid player as well. SFX went from Cardozo, to Juco, and SJU. He's currently playing pro ball overseas and is known as one of the worlds top 5 dunkers.

I have been surfing the web looking at some interesting stories. You got NYHoops.com getting it wrong, NYChoops.net getting it right, and other sites not really getting anything.

Today should be a quiet day, not much really going on but school & work. I had a chance to talk to coaches from various schools that will be in town in the next few weeks.

I would list them, but its too many schools. Ill just say its ACC, Big East, C-USA, NEC, A-10, Maac, and America East.

Check out the links, and remember this...don't believe everything you read, see it for yourself. Peace

Real Scout News & Notes (John Johnson & IS8 Week One Top Ten Players

Written By: Nathan Blue aka Real Scout

Philly star chooses Big East School.

John Johnson (Pictured) 6'1 Guard from philly's Girard College is a top 2011 pg. I just read that thursday he committed to Pitt (Big East). Johnson is a tough philly guard who scores big numbers.

Averging 21pts a game last season, Johnson held his own in St. John's University Elite camp in late June 2009.

Realscout.net has been raving about John Johnson since last October when he put on a show at The Eddie Griffen Challenge at Rutgers University. Congrats pitt fans!

Real Scout Ranks IS8 Players (Week One)

No other website is doing this, and don't get me wrong nychoops.net is doing a great job like always. But, here is the RealScout.net Exclusive List of the Top Ten Players in IS8 Week one.

Mind you, I didn't go to any of the other IS8 sites. Out of the 14 games I watched, these were my top ten is8 players of Week one.

Top Ten IS8 Players of Week One (Alphabetical Order)

Fuquan Edwin 6'5 (Playaz Club) 2010- "Fu" is playing like a Big East Player. Committed to Seton Hall University in the summer. Edwin has slowly turned himself into a very good Big East Guard.

Sterling Gibbs 6'2 (NY Panthers) 2011- Gibbs had a pass on saturday that will not be seen again. As his defense improves gibbs can be the best guard in the tournament. He shot the ball ok this week, but his overrall game this week was top notch.

Jabarie Hinds 6'1 (Mount Vernon) 2011- Forget the 40point game. His game winner and how smooth it was, made him easily my IS8 player of the week.

Kyrie Irving 6'2 (Sports Foundation) 2010- He started out so-so and finished the game like an all-american. Irving in his is8 "early morning" debut, put up solid numbers in the fourth quarter.

JJ Moore 6'7 (NY Panthers) 2010- Moore had a backwards alley oop that was the sick. I don't really do numbers, but his impact on all four wins was great.

Mike Poole 6'6 (Sponge Tech Elite) 2010- Poole had his best IS8 performance in years. Poole outplayed Kyrie Irving (Sports Foundation) early and faded away in the fourth when Irving who was quiet in the beginning dogged in the fourth. Poole did redeem himself in a solid double double game against Notre Dame Prep's Lamount Samuels (Brooklyn Ballers)

Jermaine Sanders 6'5 (New Heights Soph) 2011- Sanders did a little bit of everything. The lefty shot the ball extremely efficient and put in work in the 2 wins for "NHS"

Jeffery Short 6'3 (BBallers) 2010- Short was unstoppable against Boys and Girls. If he continues to perform at this high a level, the d1's will have to take notice.

James Stukes 6'5 (Sponge Tech Elite) 2010- I'm not going to lie. This spot could've went to a lot of people. But honestly, Stukes going 3-1 in is8 this weekend...plus that Huge dunk he caught would've been a Youtube classic. Ask around.

Reynaldo Walters 5'10 (NY Panthers) 2010- The Norfolk State Committ has really improved. His jumper was fluid, his no-look passes were on point. I can count about 8-11 steals in one game. There isn't another player in the tournament who plays the game like walters, and that's a good thing.

Real Scout Weekend 9/11-9/13 (Curry and Harkless win Nike Swoosh)

Pictured: Mike Taylor-Courtesy of NY Daily News

Written BY: Nathan Blue aka Real Scout

Hey Hoops World, today's my first day of school. So as expected things are a little hectic around me. This past weekend, I had the chance to catch up with former St. Raymond's players Jose Rodrigues and Joey Dela Rosa. While, my conversations are always private, those two kids are taking care of books and ball out in Las Vegas.

Besides talking to various D1 Coaches this weekend. I watched New York City's Top 2011 players 6'2 Mike Taylor (Boys & Girls), 6'7 Maurice Harkless (Forest Hills), 6'0 TJ Curry (Christ The King), 6'8 Chris Ortiz (Christ The King), 6'4 Evan Conti ( Holy Cross), and others play in Nike Swoosh.

Taylor's Boys & Girls team lost in the semi's to the Rising Stars. In thegame, Taylor and Conti went head to head for most of the contest.
While he was outplayed in the overrall game by the BK Sharpshooter, Conti made some huge plays to secure a 3point victory
In the other semi-final game. Maurice Harkless and his NYABC team played against a team they destoryed by 50plus last time and survived a upset by Beacon 158. Harkless led with 16pts, you can read that story on nychoops.net

In the Championship Game of the Nike Swoosh 16under division.
The Rising Stars raced out to a 19-7 first Quarter lead over NYABC.
But the scoring of Harkless and Curry was way too much for Evan Conti's scoring challenged team. In the end, harkless had one of his better games of the summer, scoring 28pts and being real effective on both ends of the court.
Curry, Ortiz and Aaron Williams 5'11 pg from Christ the King all played well in this double digit victory.
This win gave NYABC they're second straight Nike Swoosh title.

Real Scout Basketball Weekend (Thelma Smith & Wise-Dome)

Pictured : Mike Poole, Maurice Harkless, and Rudy Collins (Saya All-Stars)
Written BY: Nathan Blue aka Real Scout

I'm sorry, I've been gone for a while. I told you guys when the start of my school year was closer, i was going to be extremely busy. Here is a Breakdown of what's been going on in my basketball life.

Friday Sept 4th
Hoffman Park where most of my Real Scout Youtubes are filmed was the place to be. The tournament was sponsored by the Queens Library and Wise-dome. Its, a neighborhood tournament all the way through. The only game I attended was Saya All-Stars vs Pioneers (Newtown).

The game was close early as Newtown, mostly from the neighborhood and none standing over 5'10. Tried to battle the talented Saya All-Stars that's roster includes Mike Poole, Maurice Harkless, and Rudy Collins.

The game got out of control after the second half, as the crowded started to enjoy the highlight dunks and no look passes by these three, as Saya All-Stars went on to a blowout victory.

Saturday the 5th, was pretty much the same for the Saya All-Stars vs Team Lefrak. Nicholas Padgett and Sonny Kadisha tried there hardest to beat Saya, but without star David "Pepe" Joseph who returned to school in florida. Saturday was a 20point victory for a team, that was looking more and more like a tough out for anybody.

Saturday ended with a great BBQ, and a lot of needed sleep.

Sunday Sept 6th was a complicated day. I had to attend the "Thelma Smith Back to School Classic" on 139th and lenox in Harlem. Who's organizers told me started at 11am. But, the Wise-dome Championship game was at 6pm. Seems simple, but when you're depending on the MTA, anything can happen.

Traveling with Poole and Collins, we noticed the event was running late as soon as we stepped in the park. So, we headed to Jimbo's which was on 137th. But, it was so packed we had to choices. Go to the 145th restaurant or go to the 125th restaurant. So, knowing that the 145th is always packed, we headed down by Rice HS.

After eating and feeling good, we jetted back up to the park. There was only a girls game going on. So after watching the girls play. I had a chance to watch the 7th and 8th grade game. I'm not going to lie to you, there were some real good players in it.

Every year, there are always good players in these events that you never hear of. Some players turn into the next Ashraf Yacabou's (Top rated 2011 player), Devin Ebanks (2010 Top NBA Pick), or the next high school star.

The Two players who really impressed was a 5'7 guard named Shaakir Lindsey (Yellow Shirt) and a 5'8 combo guard Francisco Infante (Blue Shirt).

Both will be entering the 9th grade this week. Both have serious game. A natural point guard, who can score and find the open man, Lindsey will be at Teaneck High School in New Jersey.

Infante looks to be a big-time player for Rice HS with D-1 dreams and can mature into something serious down the road. I don't want to jinx it, but he's simlar to former St. Ray's star Jose Rodriguez.

"Thelma Smith Back to School 2009" also had Ron Harper (Chicago Bulls, LA Lakers, Clippers) was in attendance.

Gerald Colds (Drexel University), Ms. Sweets, Marissa Flagg (Iona College), and Jerrel Joye (LaSalle Academy) all supported the event. Which is named after Alexis Smith's mother, two mink coats, t-shirts, Laptops, and school supplies were either given away to kids in attendance.

A free style buffet for the neighborhood that included Turkey, chicken, Macaroni salad, jerk chicken, drinks and everything got me full. I was so full, I forgot we had to leave, so as we headed to Hoffman Park for the 6pm chip.

Everything that can go wrong, was going wrong. Trains especially, missed connections and I'm getting calls on my phone, while I'm underground.lol

After waiting 40mins for a Freaking E train, we walked back threw the tunnel and hopped on the 7train. Which was packed from all the US Open people. Got off at 46th street and was told, it was half-time of the game. Saya All-Stars was holding down the LES Boyz by 8 pts. Arriving immediately the trio in front of 200 watchers, put on a show. The game was decided by 16pts. Keyvien who's headed to CJEOTO prep got the MVP.

It was a great weekend. Time flies when you're having fun, shouts to all the people who make these events go down. Unikko, Wise, Mr, Padgett, Abded, and the kids of Lefrak make the wise-dome pop.

Lexus, Trey, and Turtle are the Kings of Harlem. Hands down, can't be denied. They've been doing it since, "before I was born." -----I love that line.lol

Holla at me ya.
