I went to 9 college games over this break and 2 high school games. Pretty excited about the high school season. Congrats again to Tobias Harris on picking Tennessee University, I had to chance to watch him play yesterday, while he was probably tired from the Slam Magazine 2hr photo shoot. He still managed to get above 20pts in a very competitive scrimmage against Forest Hills HS.
Also, shout out to all the people I seen over the break. Jamel Fuentes (CJEOTO Prep), Russ Smith (South Kent CT, Louisville), James Stukes & Angel Nunez (Winchendon Prep Mass), Dashaun Wiggans , Eugene Harvey, Kacy, and a ton of other dudes. Oh yeah Kevin Diffley, Mo Hicks, and Dwayne.
Big Announcement coming soon, by a kid close to the heart. Somebody has narrowed down his choices and did it, nice and quietly. Nobody has this scoop.lol

Another Crazy John Wall Video! Oh MY!

Andrew Girgis - AHN Sports Contributor
Cancun, Mexico (AHN) - John Wall, the top rated high school player last year, scored 11 of his team high 15 points in the second half as he lead the Kentucky Wildcats past Cleveland State 73-49 on Tuesday. Demarcus Cousins added 14 and seven rebounds. Kentucky (5-0) began to take control early in the second half when Cousins netted a three-pointer as the shot clock expired. The game began very sloppy for both sides as opposing players were trash talking, and officials called 24 fouls in the first half alone. Cleveland State's Josh Harrellson made a three-pointer to give them some relief going into the half. Kentucky led 35-27 at half time. The Wildcats opened the second half with a 23-6 run. Cleveland State (3-2) finally called a timeout with 13:08 left in the game, but that was too late as Kentucky was up by as many as 22-points. Highly touted All-America Patrick Patterson finished with just nine points and five rebounds for Kentucky.
D'Aundray Brown finished with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals for Cleveland State.

Happy Thanksgiving to everybody, I will be at the games tonight at madison square garden checking out Uconn vs LSU and Duke vs Arizona State. Other then that, had a chance to watch Rice against Forest Hills yesterday. There is no recession in Harlem, those guys are the best in the State hands down. Good luck to them this season and good luck to all the CHSAA Teams out there.
I'll have my CHSAA Preview up by Friday, should be very nice.

Real Scout News & Notes (Will Barton Video)
Pictured: Will Barton (Brewster Academy NH)This was a frantic weekend. Friday went to the Forest Hills vs Molloy scrimmage, followed by Brown vs SJU. Saturday I was up bright and early watching Sidicki Johnson (Arizona), Myck Kabango (Texas), and Aaron Brown (Temple) scrimmage against Blue Ridge (SC), and then headed out to the National Prep Showcase in New Haven Connecticut.
At the National Prep Showcase Coaches from St. John's, LSU, Virginia, Brown, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Drexel, Fairfield, Virginia Tech, Providence, Rutgers, and Uconn were all on hand. The games I seen, were a little dull, the main players didnt really impress me as in years past.
Here's the link for that event, plus some other links, you will be interested in reading.

Real Scout News & Notes (Pinkston Update)

Pictured: Jayvaughn Pinkston with Jason Curry
Written By: Nathan Blue aka Real Scout
Jayvaughn Pinkston 6'5 sf (Bishop Loughlin) was set to announce his decision today to attend the University of Tennessee as reported by Adam Zagoria (Zagsblog.net). Pinkston and his aau coach Kamani Young will wait until the late signing period to make a decision. I would suspect more schools will become involved in Pinkston, as he's set to have another terrific season.

Early Week Happenings

Written BY: Nathan Blue aka Real Scout
I got so many things on my mind, where should I start? Congrats to Ashton Pankey 6'8 St. Anthony's NJ for choosing Maryland University (ACC), Pankey has come a long way as a person and will be solid for Gary Williams. Speaking of commitments, one of the areas 2011 verbally committed players made a decision too early and is quietly taking back his commitment. I know this is true for a fact. No names yet.lol
Well, Hofstra will play against Uconn tonight at Gampel Pavilion (Storrs CT). I'll be watching that on tv, along with a couple other games. Brandon Jennings had Uconn in his final list, but after a year in Europe, he is looking like a NBA Eastern Conference All-Star Starter this year. His 55point game (Video Below) was amazing, and I'm sure the knicks will act like Jordan Hill will score 55points before All-Star Break.
In High School, I had a chance to watch Lincoln HS play, they're pretty good. Jefferson is good too, I'll see Boys & Girls today and Wadeligh sometime next week. I'll be in Connecticut this weekend for the Prep School Tournament. I'll be at the Pre-Season NIT next week, and Detroit for the Pistons vs Bucks and the Pistons vs Wizards game, then back for SJU vs Georgia and Uconn vs Kentucky at the Garden.

News Notes & Dwade Dunk of the Year
I'll be headed to bridgeport connecticut tonight to watch some D1 College Games. Everything else has been going smooth out here in NYC. I really am speechless after that Dwayne Wade Dunk from yesterday. It's easily the dunk of the year in the NBA, I still believe John Wall, Josh Smith, Lebron James, Nate Robinson, and Tyrus Thomas are the best dunkers in the media spotlight.
A Matter of fact, here are there dunk highlights who do you think is best?

Brandon Jennings taking the League by Storm! (Bucks Vs Nuggets Highlights)
.jpg)
Jennings, Bucks turn back Nuggets
By Charles F. Gardner of the Journal Sentinel
Brandon Jennings continued his sensational start to the season, leading the Bucks to a 108-102 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night at the Bradley Center.
Jennings helped thwart a fourth-quarter Nuggets rally as the Bucks (4-2) won their third straight and spoiled the finale of Denver's six-game road swing.
The 6-foot-1 rookie finished with 32 points and nine assists, and center Andrew Bogut added 23 points and 10 rebounds. Ersan Ilyasova had 17 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
"It was a very aggressive game, and after the first quarter we did a great job of defending them," Bucks coach Scott Skiles said. "We were able to keep the lead. You know they're going to make a big run. When we needed a big rebound, we got it.
"And when we needed big baskets, Brandon went and made big plays for us."
After the Nuggets trimmed the Bucks' lead to 100-97 on a three-pointer by Chauncey Billups with 46.1 seconds left, Bogut responded with a right-handed, running 8-footer to put the Bucks ahead by five with 24.7 seconds remaining.
But J.R. Smith buried a three-pointer after a Denver timeout, and the Nuggets quickly fouled Jennings. He sank both free throws with 21.6 seconds left for a 104-100 Milwaukee lead.
After Carmelo Anthony sank two free throws, the Nuggets fouled Jennings again and he calmly hit two foul shots with 16.7 seconds left. Anthony then missed a three-pointer from the corner, and Jennings clinched the victory with two more foul shots.
Anthony paced the Nuggets (6-3) with 32 points and 10 rebounds, and Billups added 19 points. J.R. Smith had 18 points in 28 minutes off the bench.
The Nuggets had trimmed a 12-point Milwaukee lead to 91-90 when Jennings hit back-to-back three-pointers. The first one came off a pass from Bogut, and the second came on a step-back three to give the Bucks a 97-90 lead with 3:07 left.
"The first one from Bogut, when he got doubled and kicked it to me, I made that one," Jennings said. "After that, I felt good. I was coming down and had my rhythm.
"I just went into the shot and it went in. Once it left my hands I knew it was in."

Charlie Villanueva sparks Pistons' rout of Bobcats (Plus Video!)

Ted Kulfan / The Detroit News
Auburn Hills -- A blowout in every sense. That's what this was, with the Pistons easily defeating the Charlotte Bobcats, 98-75on Wednesday night.
The first half was fairly close. The Pistons took a 52-41 halftime lead on an 11-4 run to end the second quarter.
Then the rout began. Behind red-hot Charlie Villanueva (30 points) and Ben Gordon (22 points, eight assists, no turnovers), the Pistons outscored Charlotte 29-12 in the third, taking an 81-53 lead.
"How we closed the second quarter and started the third quarter set the tone as time went on," Pistons coach John Kuester said. "The way we closed the second quarter gave us a little cushion."
Villanueva was 13-of-17 from the field, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range. He outscored the Bobcats in the third quarter, 18-12.
Said Will Bynum: "When Charlie is playing like that, it's hard to beat us because he stretches the defense and opens it up for the rest of us. It seems like he can't miss."
The Pistons (4-4) extended the lead to as many as 35 points in the fourth quarter.
"They executed, they played great and they were much more organized and played harder. They played as a team," Bobcats coach Larry Brown said. "I admired the way they played and I was embarrassed by the way that we played."
The Bobcats (3-5) were led by ex-Piston Nazr Mohammed with 13 points.
Bynum supplied the two highlights of the evening with a pair of crowd-pleasing dunks.
In the second quarter, the 6-foot Bynum drove past Gerald Wallace, found a clear path to the basket, and elevated for a right-handed baseline jam over 7-foot Tyson Chandler.
During garbage time in the fourth, Bynum gathered Jason Maxiell's deflected blocked shot around the midcourt and sprinted down court for a rim-rattling one-handed jam.

For the last 12 years, I have been able to predict who were going to be the city's top impact players. Many scouts, newspapers, and other sites have around New York City and the nation have tried to give you a glimpse of this season. But, I'd like to think, mine is a little more geared towards the little things nobody sees.

RealScout.net 2009/10 Pre-Season Player of the Year (Maurice Harkless)
This was the hardest "Player of the Year" to pick. Two weeks of leaving this spot on my blog wide open and hoping that the Next "Great one" would magically appear. Where is Lance? Omari? Sebastian? Forbes? Erving?
I'm thinking of everybody. I mean Naquan can probably average 35ppg, Mike Taylor could be on fire all season, Reynaldo Walters and Cooley will be generals and have good senior seasons.

While, I'm part of the media, I do like to consider myself as a person with a sense of reality. So with all of that being said, here are my top Public School Athletic League (PSAL) teams for the 2009/10 season, along with the Top 28 players, Pre-Season Player of the Year, and Rookie of the Year, enjoy. Oh yeah first team has 6 players because i really like all 6 of those guys for 1st team.

Malik Thomas is 6'6... and in Harlem at Wadleigh High School, that's a automatic show every night....and what about Tiny at Lincoln? He's got so much of everything, he cant pick a star off his squad!
Well, I can go to sleep at night with my Pre-Season Player of the Year for the PSAL, yup, you're gonna like this one...no other than my boy Maurice Harkless.
I know you may think this is a political move, but let's look at some numbers to support my choice. Harkless is a Top 50 Nationally rated player (Rivals.com), there isn't one other psal player looked at that highly. Scholarship offers from 26 schools and invitations for Lebron James and Team USA are in the mail, and McDonald's AA is a real reality.

At 6'7 and only 16 years old with a 7'2 wingspan, Harkless went from 6'1 to 6'7 in a yr. His first year at the Hills introduced to the game of hoops he avg 15ppg & 14rpg on a undefeated jv team.
Harkless FIRST Year on Varsity, he led a 14-4 team to a Boro Championship (Schools First Ever), while his stats were 16ppg and 12rpg. High Games of 30pts, 11rebs (Bryant), 23pts, 14rebs (Edison), and 24 vs Jefferson (Playoff loss).
His skill level is crazy to the point that almost any other top 10 psal school, prep school, d1 college, and aau team would love to add him to their starting lineup.
This alone cannot be said about 99percent of the psal players. I have never given the player of the year (PreSeason or Post Season) in my 12 years to anybody that I've personally coached or been involved with.

Ethan Telfair is finally at Lincoln High School, and the PSAL will never be the same. The younger brother of sebastian, Ethan has all the point guard instincts that most don't have. Along with a hardwork ethic, a great coach in Tiny and a family that basketball bloodline is solid.

Sounds like a successful career at Lincoln, expect some bumps in year one, but not enough to deny E.T. the rookie of the year at years end.

Nathan Blue takes a Day Off

Tuesday was election day, so after waking up early to cast my ballot. I sent text messages to all the top area players and coaches, asking "what time are you guys going today?" That's what basketball scouts do, we stay on our grind. I usually roll with a unit of many, but really just hung with one prospect.
After riding the E train to the F train, I ended up in Brooklyn at about 10:30am. There I got a chance to watch St. Francis College workout. D1 in brooklyn, you gotta love it. The practice was very intense and Coach Brian Nash and Coach Allen Griffen are two good guys.
At about 12, I and somebody else (I dont like dropping too many names), went to harlem. Why? Because, I was hungry, 1st stop Jimbos! Yup, that's free promotion, but if you live in harlem, you eaten at Jimbo's oddly enough, I was at the one next to Rice HS.
From Jimbos, walked up 125th street and went to House of Hoops. If you are a ball player you need to go to House of Hoops before you die.lol Also, if you're a tall ball player, make sure you go to Harlem USA (4x,5x,6x North Face's), and alot of stuff for taller people.
Got on the 2 train and transferred to the 5 train or maybe 4...i forgot.lol But, went past yankee stadium, its crazy the way they tore the old one apart, when you're riding the train you can see the demolition going on. My friend and I, exited at Fordham Road, and went to Fordham university, where I spoke to the staff, players, and watched practices.
The scariest part was when all the players came over and shook my hand and introduced themselves, can somebody tell these people, Im nobody.lol
But, all in all ended back on the train for another 1hr back to my house in jamaica queens. So, this is what I do on my day off, constantly trying to learn, constantly staying in the mix. If there were more hours in a day, this wouldve been alot longer to read.

Rajon Rondo, Celtics agree on extension (Monster Deal!)

By Steve Bulpett

The Celtics [team stats] and Rajon Rando have agreed on a contract extension that will pay the 23-year-old point guard some $55 million over five years, beginning with the 2010-11 season, Rondo’s agent Bill Duffy said today.
Duffy and another source close to the situation both cautioned that the pact is not yet completed. There are still details to be worked out, though it doesn’t appear there is anything that will stand in the way at this point.
“We’re very happy with how this has worked out and I hope the Celtics are too,” said Duffy. “I think this is a very good deal for both sides. I think it’s a fair deal.”
Duffy and Celtics director of basketball operations Danny Ainge reached the agreement on the numbers sometime after last night’s 97-87 victory over the New Orleans Hornets.
Rondo was summoned to the Celtics’ practice facility in Waltham around 11 p.m. after the victory. He and Ainge engaged in a long conversation regarding long term goals and expectations.
According to one source, the two “talked about life.”
Rondo is currently second in the NBA in assists with 11.8 per contest – more than double his career average – and tied for second in the league in steals with 2.5 per game. He is averaging 6.5 points, 5 rebounds and 32.5 minutes per game.
Rondo averaged 11.9 points, 8.2 assists and 5.2 rebounds last year.
The team and Rondo were facing a deadline today to get the deal done, otherwise Rondo would become a restricted free agent at the end of the season. The Celtics would have had the right to match any offer sheet presented to Rondo.

Real Scout News & Notes

I spent alot of the weekend in Neptune NJ at the Hoop Group Fall High School Showcase. The team I went with Forest Hills HS, made a nice run and lost in the championship game. You can read about that on one of the links below. Imhotep takes Title http://njhoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1009916
I'm a little upset I didn't get to see the is8 semis and championship, but I heard the games were good like always.
*6'0 Sterling Gibbs (SHP) 2011 (Pictured) lists Seton Hall, St. Johns, Indiana, Rutgers, Pitt, and Maryland amongst his offers. He said "Its too early to make a decision."
* Maurice Harkless 6'7 (FH) 2011 has been injured with a fractured foot for the past 3 weeks.
*Lincoln HS is still loaded and 5'9 Shaq Stokes (2011) 6'3 Ruben King (2011), and 5'8 Ethan Telfair (2013) all looked well in the one game I watched.
