Defense comes first for St Benedict's (Advances to City of Palms Semis)

The secret that Newark St. Benedicts Coach Danny Hurley preaches to his players who aspire to reach the next level is plain and simple.
Play defense.
Hurley's team plays it well and finds a way to mix in a proficient offense.
The Gray Bees held Baltimore St. Frances to 35 percent shooting from the field, en route to a 71-52 quarterfinal victory Monday night at Bishop Verot's High School's John J. Nevins Gymnasium.
St. Benedicts (4-0), ranked No. 9 in the country by USA Today, won the 2007 City of Palms Classic.
"It starts and ends with us playing defense. Coach (Hurley) is always stressing to play defense," said Temple recruit Aaron Brown.
St. Benedicts once again jumped out to a quick start. They led 9-2 only three minutes into the game and never trailed.
"We started well on defense and that led to numerous opportunities on offense," said Gray Bee guard Myck Kabango.
The junior, who verbally committed to Texas as a sophomore, scored 19 points and picked up four steals.
St. Frances (5-2) never got on track, due to St. Benedicts game plan to limit guards Wayne Sparrow and Dante Holmes.
"They are both really good guards, and we wanted to pressure them and make them put it on the floor," said Hurley.
Holmes led the Panthers with 19 points on 7-of-17 shooting, while the team's top shooter Sparrow attempted only one field goal.
St. Benedicts knocked off St. Frances last year in the ESPN Rise Tournament in Washington D.C.
"We remembered from last year that they have good guards, and we have to stay up on the pressure. Keep on fighting, and we will be fine," said Brown.
St. Benedicts forced 23 turnovers.
Brown isn't as well known as his teammates, but that may be quickly changing.
"He (Brown) has been undervalued his whole career. He just does it all and is going to a really good program that develops players," said Hurley.
Brown notched 17 points, dished out five assists and backed up his coach's confidence in his offensive skills.
Leading 43-32 in the third quarter, Brown took the ball hard to the basket with a big cross-over dribble, draining a 6-foot jump shot while crashing into a defender.
"We needed a big play and I just put the ball on the floor and did what I had to do. I feed off others and help get everyone amped up," said Brown.
J.P. Kambola added 10 points and seven blocks, while Mike Poole chipped in 10 points for the Gray Bees.
Hurley, who has amassed a 207-20 record in nine seasons at the all-male prep school, had his support section.
The younger Hurley paced the sidelines under the watchful eye of his older brother, Bobby.
Bobby was a Final Four MVP at Duke and an NBA Draft lottery pick of the Sacramento Kings. He resides in Hollywood, Fla., raising thoroughbred horses.

Kings come back from 35 down

ASSOCIATED PRESS
The buzzer sounded, the 35-point comeback was complete and both the ecstatic Sacramento Kings and the stunned Chicago Bulls had trouble describing what had just happened.
"Wow! All I can say is, 'Wow!' " Tyreke Evans said after dominating down the stretch and leading the Kings to a 102-98 victory Monday night. "We fought to the end. It was amazing."
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the biggest rally since Utah overcame a 36-point deficit to beat Denver on Nov. 27, 1996. The Jazz trailed 70-34 in the second quarter before winning 107-103.
On Monday, the host Bulls led 79-44 with 8:50 left in the third quarter, and were still up 83-50 two minutes later before the Kings stole momentum and, eventually, the game.
"I mean, what can you say? It's unheard of to do what just happened," Kings coach Paul Westphal said. "I'm not even sure I believe it, but it sure was fun."
The Bulls were talking about a collapse, not a comeback. "This one stings," Chicago coach Vinny Del Negro said. "We stopped being aggressive, got a little complacent there and they jumped on it. We're not good enough to take a minute off, never mind a half."
Cavs 109, Suns 91:
LeBron James and Mo Williams led a 15-0 fourth-quarter run and the Cavaliers gave the Suns their first home loss of the season, 109-91. ... James scored 29 and Williams 24.
Bucks 84, Pacers 81:
Andrew Bogut scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 18 rebounds for Milwaukee, which snapped a three-game skid with its first road win since Nov. 21.
Magic 104, Jazz 99:
J.J. Redick scored 20 points and Rashard Lewis had 18 for host Orlando. ... Redick and Lewis led a 15-2 run late in the fourth quarter. ... Jameer Nelson returned for the Magic for the first time since he had surgery Nov. 18 to repair torn cartilage in his left knee. The All-Star point guard finished with two points.
Spurs 103, Clippers 87:
Tony Parker scored 19 points for host San Antonio. ... Parker, who was 7-for-11 from the field, had eight points in a decisive third-quarter run as the Spurs extended an 11-point halftime lead to 21 entering the fourth.

Pinkston living up to lofty expectations

Written By: DYLAN BUTLER
NY Post.com
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jayvaughn Pinkston knows all about high expectations.
Last year the Bishop Loughlin standout was the only junior on the All-CHSAA first team and he enters his senior season as The Post’s preseason Player of the Year.
The Brownsville, Brooklyn native has always been in the spotlight, but this year the light shines brighter. Having already verbally committed to Villanova University, the 6-foot-6 forward stepped onto the court at a packed Baruch College Sunday evening with all eyes on him.
Pinkston had already had a productive week before the Big Apple Basketball Challenge Sunday. He was named to the all-tournament team of the A-Rod Basketball Classic in Miami, while reigning Gatorade Player of the Year Brandon Knight claimed MVP honors.
Back in New York, back on his home turf, no one was better than Pinkston Sunday. He scored 26 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had four blocks, sparking Bishop Loughlin to a 75-72 overtime win against PSAL power Thomas Jefferson.
Pinkston is a fiery competitor on the court and will do anything to help his team win. That was true with 1:56 left in overtime, when he got into a heated verbal confrontation with teammate and close friend Branden Frazier during a timeout.
Tough love is all the Lions called it and Frazier responded by burying a 3-pointer that put the Lions in front for good. The pass didn’t come from Pinkston, but the senior guard credited Pinkston with an assist.
“It was to get us motivated. At the end of the day, Jayvaughn is still one of my best friends,” Frazier said. “I took it personal that I needed to step up.”
Pinkston stepped up as well, living up to his high expectations with a dominant performance against Thomas Jefferson. But Pinkston isn’t concerned about being billed as the best player in New York City.
“I have proved myself already,” Pinkston said. “Now it’s just a matter of getting the city championship. That’s what I’m focused on.”

City of Palms: St. Benedict's holds off Sagemont to advance (Real Scout's Mike Poole Scores 19)

Junior guard Myck Kabongo leads Gray Bees' victory; Paterson Catholic, Penn Wood and St. Frances move to second round.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – No. 13 St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, N.J.) took the opening night’s main event at the City of Palms Classic in a matchup with Sagemont (Weston, Fla.).
After building a pair of double-digit leads on commanding runs in both the opening and final quarters at Bishop Verot High School, St. Benedict’s fought off Sagemont to advance with an 80-66 victory.
“We played a faster pace than we probably normally would and gave up more points than we would have liked, but tonight we wanted a faster pace to speed them up and keep their frontcourt guys from getting established,” St. Benedict’s head coach Dan Hurley said.
Junior point guard Myck Kabongo scored 27 points, handed out four assists and added three steals for the victorious Gray Bees. Senior swingman Mike Poole scored 19 points and had three steals. Gilvydas Biruta added 12 points and five rebounds in 19 minutes while Aaron Brown had nine points and four steals.
“It was a good team effort tonight. We started off slow, but coach always fires us up and we got out to that big first-half lead after that,” Kabongo said. “We held them to 10 points in the first quarter, and that’s a goal of ours to accomplish – no double figure quarters. We could have finished quarters better ourselves, though.”
Will Sheehey, and Indiana commitment, and Vinny Delucia scored 16 points each to lead Sagemont. Sheehey also racked up 13 rebounds. Seven-footer Fab Melo finished with six points and three rebounds in just 10 minutes while battling foul trouble.
St. Benedict's used a first-quarter blitz to build a 21-4 lead. Melo picked up his second foul with four minutes to go in the opening quarter and was relegated to the bench.
It looked like the Gray Bees would pile it on as the second quarter began with Brown scoring two baskets ahead of the pack in transition. Melo picked up a third foul midway through the quarter but Sagemont recovered and forced a timeout with 4:15 remaining before halftime with the game back to a manageable 27-19.
Coming out of the half, Sagemont’s Vinny Delucia scored with contact and followed with a free throw for a three-point play opportunity that cut the lead to just two, 36-34.
St. Benedict’s turned up its motor to counter as Biruta scored on an offensive rebound, leading to Kabongo stealing the inbound pass for another quick hoop. J.P. Kambola blocked a shot on the defensive end and Kabongo would push it up the floor for a finish in transition, pushing the lead back to 43-34 in a matter of seconds.
Melo eventually fouled out, picking up numbers four and five in each of the final two quarters.
A three-pointer by Kabongo forced a timeout at 5:41 in the fourth quarter and widened the lead to 15 points, 61-46.
Sagemont again surged back behind Sheehey, cutting it to 68-62 with 2:10 left in the game.
Biruta and Kabongo continued to make plays on the defensive end to help prevent a lead change and eventually hit free throws down the stretch to close things out.
“I’ve been here three years now and have played every position from role player to bench warmer to starter, so this year I’m in a leadership role and happy to do that,” Poole said. “Just keeping everybody’s heads up and keeping each other playing hard will help us reach our goals. One of them is winning the whole thing here.”
The Gray Bees advance in the 16-team bracket of national powers and next face St. Frances (Baltimore, Md.) Monday at 5:15 p.m.

Real Scout is finally done....well almost.

Yeah, you read the title, I'm finally done. Nope, the site isn't going anywhere, but "finally done" pertains to school being over, until late Jan 2010. One more classes needed for my associates degree. Yes, I'm braggin.lol
This was another long week, I watched St. Benedict's Destroy Upper Room Academy (NY), and then on Sunday went to watch the games at Baruch. The All Hallows vs Lincoln game was and the Loughlin vs Jefferson Overtime Game, were the days highlights. Evan Conti tore up Forest Hills, but he didn't tear up Harkless like the article said. If you was there, you didn't at onetime say "Conti is locking him up" you probably said something more like "Harkless just isn't shooting the ball enough'"
It was what it was, no excuses. Holy Cross played a good game and won, Forest Hills got outplayed.
Now yesterday I watched my Forest Hills Rangers beat a good young Bayside HS Team 60-54. The stats were Maurice Harkless (24pts 16rebs), Nick Padgett (13pts 3assts) Rudy Collins (8pts 10rebs), and Denzel Dulin (9pts).
After the game, some of the guys and I went directly to New Rochelle, to watch Albany at Iona College. I never got a chance to watch Will Harris (Lefrak City, Queens) play at UA. So, we surprised him, and he surprised us. Scoring 16 at the Half and finishing with 20pts on about 4 (3pters). I also got a chance to see Trinity Field (Cardozo-Iona), Scott Machaddo (St. Benedict's-Iona), Mike Johnson (Sheepshead Bay- Albany), Milan Prodnovic (Molloy-Iona), and Tim Ambrose (Our Savior New America- Albany).
They all showed love, and they all seem to be doing great things in life. Keep up the good work and get that degree.
Other than that, not much else going on. I'll be at the New Heights event today and tomorrow at Fordham. Sunday, I'll be at Uconn or maybe not. Just having alot of fun. Shoutout to all the people I seen in the last couple of weeks. Love is Love. You heard it hear first, in 2000-10...I gotta win. Holla at me.

Dwight Howard Sues His Son’s Mother (Plus Video)

By BET.com Staff
Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard is suing the mother of his son, saying that she violated their agreement by publicizing criticisms against him on the Internet.
Dwight Howard In documents released by WFTV in Orlando, Howard’s attorneys are seeking $9.2 million in damages and custody of their 2-year-old son. The suit alleges that Royce Lyndsay Reed, or associates of her, posted disparaging comments made directly or indirectly against Howard.
Among those comments, posted on a Web site called “Lipstick Alley” titled “the ‘real’ Dwight Howard????” are such remarks as: "He hasn't shown up for his scheduled visitation in...three months but loves his son? … "Royce is gorgeous, and a class act. The new girl is trash" … “So apparently he hits ladies...what else? … “He has another baby in Atlanta. Pays for ladys [sic] home, and keeps it in his cousins name."
These comments could have a negative effect on Howard’s career, his attorneys claim, particularly undermining his endorsement deals and relationships with various companies.
They would like to be awarded $500 per remark posted online multiplied by the 17,410 times they have been viewed, adding to the $9.2 million in damages, reports WFTV.

Wrenshall (Minn.) girls hoops team blanked in 65-0 loss

WRENSHALL, Minn. (AP) — It was just one of those nights for the Wrenshall girls basketball team, who lost 65-0 at home to Moose Lake-Willow River.
Wrenshall coach Michelle Blanchard says she's got a young, inexperienced team this year and on Thursday the "shots just weren't going in."
Moose Lake-Willow River coach Andrew Miller says he played his junior varsity players for nearly all of the second half, when his offense scored 25 points.
He says the Wrenshall team played hard the whole game and had chances to score. He reviewed the video tape and found they missed 11 layups.
It's been a rough week for the Wrens (0-5). They lost 102-20 on Monday to Floodwood

PSAL clears Lincoln's Kamari Murphy to join Railsplitters on court

By ZACH BRAZILLER
Lincoln forward Kamari Murphy has been cleared by the PSAL to join the Railsplitters on the court, Department of Education spokesperson Margie Feinberg told The Post Monday afternoon.
Murphy, who transferred to the Coney Island powerhouse from Bishop Ford last week, will join Lincoln for tomorrow’s Brooklyn AA league game at Transit Tech, coach Dwayne (Tiny) Morton said, after the forward logged a league-required eight practices.
"I think he's a huge addition," Morton said. "We needed someone inside who can run the floor and score for us."
Although Rule 3.2 of the PSAL’s Student-Athlete Eligibility Rules and Regulations on the PSAL official site states: “If a student was on a team’s active roster in a sport in any high school (public, parochial or private), that student may not participate in the same sport during the same season, for any other team,” Feinberg said Murphy wasn’t on the Bishop Ford active roster as of Dec. 4, when the investigation by eligibility coordinator Alan Blanc began. He participated in seven scrimmages with the Falcons, but not in any regular-season games.
“I figured the process had to take its time and take its course,” Murphy’s stepfather Kaheem Draper said. “I’m just happy for him.”
CHSAA and Bishop Ford president Ray Nash feels differently. Calling the decision "mind-boggling," he said it sets a bad precedent considering Murphy was on Bishop Ford's roster in the league's media guide and on the Falcons' active roster as of Dec. 1.
"I don't know how they get around that rule, which is theirs, but evidently they have," he said. "They interpret their rules the way they want. ... When a kid leaves during the season and is eligible a week later, what kind of message does that send to kids?"
"I don't think they uphold their role of being educators," he added, "but that's only my opinion."
Murphy, a 6-foot-8 power forward, is being recruited by Providence, St. John’s, Virginia and Virginia Tech, and felt he needed a grander stage to exhibit his skills. Bishop Ford plays in the lower-level CHSAA Class A, while Lincoln competes in the PSAL Class AA.
“At this point he wants to be challenged a bit more as far as being an athlete is concerned,” Draper, who was a volunteer assistant coach of Ford's freshman basketball team, said last week. “You have 'A' and 'AA' basketball. He feels he’s good enough to play on that level on a consistent basis to challenge himself for the next level.”
Murphy enrolled at Lincoln last Thursday and was on the bench for the Railsplitters' games against Robeson later that day and All Hallows on Sunday. Murphy has adjusted well to the change, Draper said. The surroundings were familiar since his sister graduated from Lincoln.
“It’s exactly what he thought it was,” Draper said. “He’s pretty happy.”

Funsport Regular Season Concludes, Playoffs Next
Pictured: Isiah WhiteheadWritten BY: Thomas "Tippy" Mcternan
The final weekend of regular season pool play in the Funsport Junior Pros tournament at JHS 113 in Brooklyn saw several teams on the "bubble" battle for playoff spots while four pool leaders finish unbeaten at 5-0 to secure the top seeds in the upcoming playoffs. Sixteen of the original 30 teams will now begin a single-elimination playoff round, leading to the January 3 Championship Finals at Madison Square Garden.
Gauchos-Mapp needed two wins on Saturday to qualify as the third seed in Pool C, and they got it done, edging Future Ones 52-51 and defeating Riverside Blue 50-22. The game against Future Ones was close throughout with the Gauchos getting the "W" when Kelvin Riley (Mount Carmel, NYC) converted an inbounds pass underneath with 30 seconds left. DeAnte Burton (Williamsburg, New London CT) topped the Gauchos (3-2) with 12 points and steady play at the point, while Riley, Devonte Green (Robert Moses, Babylon LI), and Jaquan McKennon (Allen AME, Queens) added 10 points apiece. Anton McNeil (Environmental Science, NYC) netted a game-high 27 points for Future Ones (2-3), which fell out of playoff contention with the loss.
The City also punched their playoff ticket with a pair of victories, giving them a 4-1 record and the second seed in Pool B. Their big win was a 59-54 decision over Riverside-8 behind a clutch fourth quarter performance from Michael Williams (Mott Hall IV Middle, Brooklyn). Williams gave The City the lead for good with two putbacks early in the final period, saved the lead with a key block down the stretch, and sealed the win with a driving left-hand layup with 38 seconds left. He recorded 8 points and 7 rebounds in the fourth quarter, finishing the game with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Isaiah Whitehead (IS 288, Brooklyn) took off in the third quarter with 14 points and 7 boards, finishing with a 23-point, 12-rebound double. Maurice Harkless Links
Written BY: Nathan Blue aka Real Scout
With the committment of Maurice Harkless 6'8 2011 to The University of Connecticut, there comes a great deal of media attention. Here are MOST of the articles, blogs, that were mentioning his name. Oh yeah Kentucky fans, Harkless never visited UK because he couldnt afford the flight and Hotel for a couple of days stay, and he was hurt. But, he had a offer from Kentucky, and I spoke with the coaching staff the day before the committ. They like others wanted harkless to delay, but he was excited about winning a championship or two at Uconn.
Oh yeah Shouts to Tammy and her daughter who's headed to St. John's Fisher College (Rochester NY) in the fall of 2010.

Guess who's back?

If you didnt know, I've been a little busy. Most know about 6'8 Maurice Harkless (2011) committing to Uconn. But, another Real Scout Family member wasnt doing too well. Out of school and working a dead end job, Sal Patricio is back. The city's second leading scorer in 2004 behind Sebastain Telfair. Patricio was the best shooter, I've ever coached.
After playing at Bryant HS and transfering to Florida Prep. He played his freshman year at Hofstra, and wasnt happy. So he went to Blinn Community College TX for his sophomore year to and then signed with D1 St. Francis College (NY). After not graduating he went to St. Catherine in Kentucky (NAIA), family problems brought him back home, and this week Patricio is in the process if enrolling in Farmingdale College D3.
While this may not seem like big news to you most. Just seeing this kid get back on his feet is a good enough thing to mention.

Real Scout Rant...about life

Written By: Nathan Blue
School is almost over for me. Thank ya lordi lord! I got a couple of professors who arent pleased with my essays. I have one Oral presentation for a business class thats due next week. Topic is "Act like a chairman of a corporation and discuss it's functions"
Ummm, call me David Stern because im doing the NBA thing for this class project. Lol
I still don't know whats going on for me after i obtain my college degree in Spring of 2011. I hold a B+ avg, so thats good.
I've considered college coaching, highschool coaching, nba scouting, or staying at my current employement which barley pays the bills.
So, i wake up everyday until then reading all the blogs, wishing my naia kids, d2 kids, d3 kids, d1kids, and college grads good luck.
I really just spend time reading sites that have informative stuff, talk to family and friends. I got a cousin in NC who's up and coming. 13years old.
Recently got into the who twitter.com phase, and I dont write too many stories because it's boredline snitching and I'm down with the stop snitching campaign.
I knew Leroy Fludd 6'5 2012 was going to Boys & Girls Hs from Grady, before the
media. I coached him with Juice in rumble in the bronx 16s.
The same way, you will read about Kamari Murphy 6'8 PF Bishop Ford is now attending Lincoln. He's already been there for a couple of days from my close sources.
He's one of my favorite big men 6'8 15yr old junior! Wake Forest and others are involved, great kid, great family support.
Speaking of message boards & blogs. I love redmen.com and OTHERS ALIKE. Those fan affilated sites are dope. I really wish i could go on and talk hoops, but i cant. Since I like a array of colleges.
While, boards like that have some of the most informative die hard fans in hoops. I'm going to get roasted for not sending anybody to Sju or other locals.

Man, id love to NOT watch a kid 8 hrs away, driving up and down route 95 in a rent a car, worried about the DC Sniper part II.
I stay off all fans sites because while they are the blood of the program, and recruits do read them. I know kids who get turned off by sites affialted with programs and some d1 coaches that hate them. But ball is ball, while you will have your positive fans, there will always be SOME negative fans who, want to just say "You did this and that Nate Blue."
Which mostly is made up by some huge consipircy theory. Or just made to make me get defensive.

I know omari lawerence very well, i coached malik stith in 10th grade, Rob Thomas, Justin Burrell, OZ, I helped Norm get the first ever NYC committ in CV, what about Melquan who de-committed from there, Will Harris who wanted to go, Weyinmi who wanted to go, or Greedy who had the option.
I spoke to Eugene Lawrence and gave him my take when he was talking about going to prep for a year or unc charollte. I tried to help them with Shamari Spears.
I knew sylvan wasnt going when he was in uva on his own dime for extra days, being showed around campus by Will Harris, who told me everything.
The problem in this game, man i hate to say is a socially more than anything. I consider myself a guy who watches alot of basketball and watches what translates as years progress, so I am you.
Except if a certain ACC Head Coach askes me at 12:30am "What are we doing
wrong, my assts are horrible."

My reply is "It's freaking 1230am, how about grab some offensive rebounds to create second shots and get more cutting than pick and rolls. You need more guards on your roster, and some high IQ kids."
But as that acc coach does trust my "little bit" of input and we developed a relationship.

I have some people who dont value my opinion and its a constant battle, when in the end. Im making under 50,000 a yr and theyre getting hAlf a Million! I'm trying to help you win, but i'm the fool for trying to help you get a quality under the radar player, who as my man Rob says is "High Risk, High Reward", you gotta have some of those.
On a real random note, please read very carefully. Shouts to Worldwide Wes. We had some real good convos. I know you're wondering why bring this up. Because mentally i feel like www (at a smaller scale), what the media writes about him is good and bad, but no gas...he's so real..like if you can hate on wes and bad mouth him and not meet him, that's crazy. I dont need anything from uncle wes, but he's a good source of advice if you ever do get to brush shoulders with him, thats my uncle. He's considered the most powerful man in sports.
They always try and throw him under the bus, imagine me.
Nathan Blue high school coach, scout, blog, mentor, go to college, respect everybody (to a fault), and have a hundred kids you never heard of. I met agents in the past but do no business with then nor need to.
It's just you will always see that one big name kid in the media, like villanueva or whoever and you say"Nate trying to get paid.". When in relailty its "Nate works with avgerage kids who wouldnt get a scholarship and probably knock you upside your head and take your ipod,
but instead he gets the kid some publicity and is off the streets and into a college."
Ima tell you what my mentor Rodney Parker used to say "If a kid got a 90avg and is getting 25ppg he doesnt need my help. But i'll take the kid from the hood, with the talent, bad grades, and great personality and make em into something. ".
That was real talk rodney and i love you for that, RIP man. Well i'm gonna continue to do me while "some" people for over 10years wonder "what is this guy trying to do, dont trust
him.". Lol
Hopefully everybody has a good weekend. I have a real busy one ahead. Checking Iabbo frosh tourney at sfp out.
Happy B-day to my dude Alex Hall 6'5 SG at St. Catherine College in Kentucky!

I'll be in Kentucky soon, i was suppose to fly out this morning to Detroit. They play rookie of the year "Brandon Jennings" tonight. But, this kid Harkless was watching college ball, home with
a broken foot and said "I want to win a title, I know were I fit, let's get this done.".
Maurice Harkless is close to having 5 schools. There will be a video blog of his 5 schools on GothamHoops.com sometime this weekend. The offical committment will be Wed Dec 9th on sny.tv
A lot of people are missing the boat on Mike Poole 6'6 St. Benedicts...hes so nice its crazy. But his level of respect is horrible. No way he gets all these low D1's but, i might have a ACC/
Big East/Big 12 option for him.

"We’re happy once again to showcase many of the top programs and student-athletes in New York City," said BAB President, Jason Curry. “This event has gained a lot of momentum and continues to be one of the premier tip-off events for New York City basketball fans, players, coaches and the general community.”

The challenge will feature, CHSAA schools Bishop Loughlin, St. Raymond, Xaverian, All Hallows, Bishop Ford, Holy Cross, Archbishop Molloy and Blessed Sacrament, along with PSAL schools Thomas Jefferson, Wings, Abraham Lincoln, Boys and Girls, Forest Hills, Paul Robeson, Wadleigh and Campus Magnet.
Notable players include: Bishop Loughlin senior, Jayvaughn Pinkston; Wadleigh senior, Malik Thomas (Boston University); Blessed Sacrament’s 6’6 senior, David Samuel; All Hallows senior, Mike Alvarado (Manhattan College); Boys and Girls highly touted junior guard, Mike Taylor; Thomas Jefferson backcourt, David Coley (senior) and Davontay Grace (junior); and Forest Hills 6’7 junior, Maurice Harkless.
Former event standouts include: Lance Stephenson (Lincoln/Cincinnati); Kemba Walker (Rice/UConn); Charles Jenkins (Springfield Gardens/Hofstra); Sylven Landesberg (Holy Cross/Virginia) and Erving Walker (Christ the King/Florida).
Thomas Jefferson, Wings, and Boys and Girls will all be favorites to capture the city crown this year. On the CHSAA side, Bishop Loughlin is expected to be one of the frontrunners for the city title.
"We’re happy once again to showcase many of the top programs and student-athletes in New York City," said BAB President, Jason Curry. “This event has gained a lot of momentum and continues to be one of the premier tip-off events for New York City basketball fans, players, coaches and the general community.”
