Lenny Cooke "One of the greatest to never make it" PLUS VIDEO

Written By: Nathan Blue aka Real Scout
Before Lebron there was Lenny Cooke. Simply put, he was the biggest thing in High School Hoops for about 3-4 years.

To the nation he was the Top Player in the 2002 class. To NYC, he was the best we ever seen at that time. He had the heart of a lion, the handle of a midget, and the arm wiggle of a octopus.

I've tried many times to explain the Lenny Cooke that I knew. Which was a kid who was either going to be the best to ever play or a dud who never made it. Cooke's fate was all sealed by his attitude towards others. His disrespect for the game that loved him and would've made him the greatest.

Lenny had the support of millionaires who were ready to do whatever was needed to make him successful person. It sometimes feels like a Fairytale.

Like It feels as tho I didn't watch him go to FK Lane High School, La Salle Academy, and Old Tappan HS.

Amare, Melo, JR Smith, and others were victims of Cooke in the early 2000's. Time after Time tourney after tourney, holding him to 35 and 20 was your best bet.

Was that Lenny Cooke at the 2002 Mc Donalds All-American Game in street clothes? Is that him sitting behind the bench being grabbed by fans like hes a rock star? Is that jay-z with lenny? Oh snap, DJ Clue and lenny?

To many who know the whole Lebron James/Lenny Cooke story, which is over hyped. For every story you have, I have a Lenny Cooke Story. Had my back when I almost got into it with somebody in New Jersey.

Or when Gary Irving (Arkansas), Charlie Villanueva (NBA), Lenny Cooke, Franscio Garcia (NBA), and Curtis Sumpter (Nova), all sat down the day before that famous Lebron game meeting and said "Lets all go to Kansas.."

Do people really remember that Lenny who had previously "Punk'd" Kobe Bryant, Tracy Mcgrady as guest speakers jumping up in their faces, while in the middle of the speech saying "You are trash, I'll bust your ass, play me for the money right now."

Google the name, check out one of the baddest to ever do it..currently missing in action. I really think, I will never see another talent like Lenny Cooke from the NYC area in my life time.

Two real good Lenny Cooke stories below..take your time and read..if you love the game.

Mondays with Nate....nah Im joking "Real Scout Hoop Summary"

This weekend, I had the chance to attend alot of different games. I went to the Jefferson vs St. Ray's game at St. Raymond's High school on friday. Hofstra was in the building watching the both talented squads play a very entertaining game. In the end,Nkereuwem Okoro had 19pts in a 74-70 overtime victory in which he hit the 3pter to send the game to overtime.

Saturday was another long day, as I went to watch the Forest Hills vs Wadeligh game and a little bit of the Cardozo vs Transit Tech game. Im sure you can find the results of those games everywhere online but two double digit victories for Cardozo and the Harlem tigers.

Other than that, my car didnt start on sunday but I somehow got out to a nice workout in the morning after calling AAA. This week is the Public School Athletic League Playoffs and the CHSAA sectional playoffs.

Good luck to all the teams and may the best team win...actually the best "Team" will win.lol
Oh yeah, check the nba all star mix below...

Freshman Hall makes impact for St. Catharine basketball team (Realscout Fam)

Alex Hall could have gone to Prep School or Junior College, to help his stock to become a D1 basketball player. However he chose to come to a NAIA College.

St. Catharine never won a National Title or makes it to NAIA Tournament since 1989 under legendary coach Pit Newell. Hall said he wanted to create his own history. So last spring, he chose, St. Catharine College, a struggling basketball program still seeking its first NAIATournament bid since joining Divi- sion I in 2006.

"They had kind of a turnaround program," said Hall, whose team plays at Georgetown the number 1 rank team in the country at 7:05 tonight at the DCS Gym. "I knew we were going to bring in good players and have a good team. I always wanted to play on a college team that was good, but had the potential to be better ".

The Patriots, 17-8 in Coach JT Burton second season, take a mark into tonight's game against the Grizzlies. Hall has played a big part in the improvement. The 6-foot-5 freshman guard is averaging 14.6 points and 4.6 rebounds that help him win the NAIA Freshman of the Year and a spot on the All-Conference Second Team and supplying much-needed length, athleticism and energy.

Asking Burton about recruiting Hall, a former standout at Forest Hill High School (NY), and he says he didn't like what he heard about how hall played in the Queens Champion last spring even though Hall won the game and scored 17 points." He said Alex doesn't play hard, I don't think he's geared in mentally, he's very immature, and he's not playing the way I would hope, so I'm not real excited at this point. It helped that Burton when and told Hall, he took the words to heart and focused on improvement. And it helped that St.Cathrine assistant coach Matt Stairmen stayed in Burton's ear, telling his boss Burton its worth seeing him again. "I went out and saw him in person and loved him," Burton said.

Asking Hall what help him too improve him game in high school he said “praticing everyday with his best friend and UConn bound Maurice Harkless one the top high school player in the Country helped and hard work and Coaches, Ben Chobhaphand, Anthony Dulin and Nate Blue help me understand the game. Burton planned to redshirt Hall this season. But Hall had other plans, coming from New York and the playing in pickup games and lift weights.

After two practices, Hall showed he was too good to redshirt.

"There was no way," Burton said.

Hall, 19, has given the Patriots elements they lacked last season.

"He brings a great spirit to the game every day," senior point guard Mike Marcial said. "He's always having a good time. He just creates great energy. And he's 6-5 and long. That always helps."

Hall has played more guard than forward this season. But Burton envisions the player he considers fearless as a wing in 2010-11, expecting improvement in ball handling, shooting, strength and leadership.

"He just gives us a scorer, a guy who can guard a lot of different spots, an explosive player who can make a play," Burton said.

"His upside to me is unlimited. … I really believe he's going to work very hard because he's a very motivated kid."

Burton said he has a lot to work on. But he sees the talent around him – 6-8 center Alpha N'Diaye and 6-5 forward Walter Jackson, both junior redshirts, have stood out in practice – and envisions something special.

"Making it to the (NAIA) Tournament;” he said. "I want people to remember our class, the (recruiting) class of '09."

An NAIA berth certainly would do that.

After seeing Hall play in person, against the number 1 rank team I just had 2 say “WOW”. Hall had 11 points 6 rebounds in a win. Hall is hands down the best player on his team and one of the top players in the country. After the game seeing Alex play three different position I ask Hall was position does he think he is best suit at Hall replied “none, I am a basketball player it doesn’t matter. In my 10 years covering NAIA basketball, Alex is the best freshman I ever saw, this kid can definitely play at the D1 level. If he keeps playing hard he will get there sooner or later. I think soon.

Nate Robinson Possible Trade

Did anybody notice that the NY Knicks are really going to trade Nate Robinson for Eddie House? My only real thoughts on that is, I'm happy they don't have Brandon Jennings. Because he might have been sent packing in one of these trade costing deals.

PSAL Seeds

I guess the seeds are what they are. It's just a wide open league, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the lower seeds beats higher seed in the second round. Seeds are made because one team is scared to play another team. I mean who really wants a easy road to a championship game? Not me, Id rather beat the best to say "I'm the best." My way of thinking isn't big in basketball, but that's what makes me unique.lol

Mc Donalds All-Americans

Kyrie Irving, Doron Lamb, Jayvaughn Pinkston, and Tobias Harris (Pictured). Have all made the roster, now the question is "Do I personally think they deserve it?" The answer is simply "Yes." These players were highly rated in other peoples eyes, but overrated in mine...except for Lamb and Harris. I didn't think Irving was as good as advertised, but watching him night after night tear apart any guard who stepped in front of him, blocking shots, and doing all the necessary things to easily be looked at as "The Best PG in the nation".

Kyrie Irving is a tough out, a real all-around competitor. Pinkston is my guy, but at Nova, I really don't know yet. Will he be the next Dajuan Blair or Antonio Pena? Pinkston has the stats to translate to "Mc D's" but, Im watching Taylor King, who was a shooting guard at High School (One of the best shooters ever), play the power forward spot at Nova...so congrats to Pinkston for making the game, but college will be the true test for the Brownsville BK native.
